But as soon as I threw myself into the folding chair and laid my head on the reception desk, I heard a woman’s voice. Every hair on the back of my neck stood up at first. I thought it was Lana, and she was disobeying me by traipsing around the hotel.

Then the woman came into view, and I relaxed. As she approached, she ran her hands through her close-cropped hair. Her features were masculine, and her eyes were cold and hard.

She was basically Lana’s opposite. Hell, she was wearing a pantsuit.

To be honest, her presence was baffling. It seemed inconceivable that this was one of the guests I was tasked with waiting for.
